Hello West

Sunset in Hughenden

Farewell to the coast, we’ll see you again in 3 weeks on the other side in Derby, WA.

Yesterday, we began our journey west to WA. We left home 2 weeks ago on our 7 month Australia loop. It’s been really fabulous catching up with family and friends up the QLD coastline.

So many laughs and good times. This time, I was fortunate to catch up with fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, the absolutely gorgeous Caz Boylan for a lovely brekky in Bundaberg. Thanks Caz ❤️

It was really great to see Finch Hatton Gorge and Eungalla for the first time. I’d heard many a story from John about his adventures while growing up here. I had a great chat with Uncle Danny about their cane farm and the cane industry.

The next stop was a few days at John’s childhood beach holiday destination, Seaforth, with his folks. We didn’t leave Mackay without visiting friends we had met on our last trip for a lovely dinner and rematch of Catan. Thanks Cheryl and Jeff, if your reading ❤️

The next stop was staying with family in Airlie Beach and then Bowen. An quick one nighter in Townsville allowed us to have a fabulous lunch with Josie and Max to chat all things caravanning and travel.

Then off to the Hinchinbrook Shire for a few days with friends, Karen & Jared, staying at their beach house in Forrest Beach. We were blessed to have awesome weather and lucky to be treated to a day out on the boat.

I met Karen back in my Regional Arts Fund days in 2015, opening the Mercer’s Lane Mosaic Project but that is another post for another day. However, if you are in Ingham check it out and grab a delicious meal at her deli – JK’s in the main street. You won’t be disappointed!

So now it’s time for some serious travel to places I haven’t journeyed before. We are heading west through Julia Creek, Mt Isa, Katherine, and crossing the border to WA near Kununurra. Here are a few pics of Hughenden and Julia Creek. Tomorrow morning we may even have some Red Claw in that Yabbie pot
